Hiring is based on government-to-government partnership and under the so-called Triple Win Project – a German program established in 2013 to focus on sustainable recruitment of nurses from Philippines, Tunisia, Indonesia, and other countries.
Experts predict that the nursing sector in Germany will need approximately 150 thousand new nurses by 2025, while the situation will become even more complicated given the predicted demographic changes. On the other hand, partner countries of the Triple Win project must have a surplus of qualified nurses that cannot be absorbed by the local labor markets. The German authorities also expect that the migrants’ remittances and transfer of know-how is beneficial for the countries of origin, including the Philippines.
In the Philippines, applications are accepted by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and are open for Filipino registered nurses with at least a year of experience in hospitals and other healthcare institutions. The nurses are required to have a language proficiency at the B1/B2 level. In case the nurses did not achieve such a level yet, they should go through a language course in Germany to achieve at least the B1 level. The language courses in Germany are offered for free and are geared toward both for workers preparing for exams and for people who want to refresh their language skills.
In addition to the language requirement, other documents must be submitted. These include, for instance, a cover letter, a curriculum vitae with a photo, a notarized diploma, previous and current certificates of employment in the related field, and a valid passport.
